some people go by life believe that things happen by chance and some believe that things happen by destiny. I had the chance to look at Slumdog millionaire, a movie about a kid that goes onto a game show called "Who wants to be a Millionaire". As he is going through the questions he is able to answer the majority of the questions which the answers have come to him through his life. There is another story a called "The Necklace" written by Guy de maupassant which is talking about the life of a lady that was think her glamour would allow her access to wealth. but she was in mediocore life Now are these events destiny or chance?
Both stories talk about how they wanted their lives to be. Slumdog is more of a love story, Jamal's ambitions evolved from desire to be with latika, a girl he meets as a child. Throughout his life they were kept apart by his brother Salim. Salim seems to be jealous of his brothers seeming luck, which was illustrated in the beginning when Jamal was able to obtain an autograph from a famous actor, in spite of his attempt to keep him from getting the autograph. as the movie progesses you see how Salim is trying to prevent his brother from gaining indepenence, but his action actually seems to enable Jamal to succeed. From getting the Girl and getting million dollars/
The Necklace is about Mathilde loisel who believe she is destiny to live a life of wealth and privilige. but she did not realize she had a good life. Her household was well tended cause she didnt have to cook or clean. She believes that her house should be elegant and posh. Then her husband comes home with a invitation to a ball, which she believe she needs a new dress and jewelry. she able to get the dress on her own,but has to borrow the necklace from Madame Forestier . After burrowing the necklace she loses it and can not find it. Rather then the her that she lost the necklace, she tells Madame Forestier that she broke the clasp. Then she and her husband go into debt to buy a similar necklace. They spend the next decade in poverty and struggle to repay the debt. Then Mathilde Loisel bumps into Madame forestier and tell her about her struggle. Madame forestier then tell her that the necklace was a fake.
In comparison, both these stories show how one little thing can become something big and change the course of a person's entire life. The primary character in both tales has one event that changes their lives so drastically, that had it not happened everything afterwards would have been different. Jamal events that made his life changing event possible, in that his unique experiences gave him the ability to win a game show that people who were considered "better" and at least more educated could not win. Salim was most often the person responsible for the changes in Jamal's life. Mathilde was her own catalyst for the changes in her life. By the end of the tale the reader comes to the realization that her life prior to her loss of the necklace; was good. There is a theme of greed throughout both stories as well as a moral to teach that greed doesn't guarantee success. Salim, having realized the error of his ways, dies at the end of Slumdog in a pool of blood and money. The reader is left to imagine what happened next to Mathilde and her husband, but there is the hope that through the outcome, she has also learned to be happy with what you have. It is interesting to see how, in the case of Slumdog, a person can rise to become a millionaire from such extreme poverty; whereas, in the case of the necklace, a person can fall into that same type of extreme poverty from a lifestyle filled with comfort and ease.
